Only three Akatsuki members actually have eye powers: Itachi and Obito carry the Sharingan, and Pain carries the Rinnegan. Everyone else under the red-cloud cloak — Konan, Deidara, Hidan, Kakuzu, Kisame, Sasori, Zetsu — has an ordinary eye color that is still very much worth copying. Itachi: three tomoe, then the pinwheel
Itachi's eyes do most of their acting in silence. The base form is the calm, three-tomoe red — a deep crimson iris with three comma marks orbiting the pupil, unsettling precisely because the face around it never moves. When the story escalates, the tomoe fuse into his signature Mangekyo: a three-spoke pinwheel that reads clearly even in a dim convention hall. If your cosplay covers both moods, plan for both prints — the quiet tomoe for hallway shots, the pinwheel for the moment someone asks for "the Amaterasu eye." A chunkier tomoe-ring print also photographs beautifully at arm's length, and there is a second take on the pinwheel with heavier spokes if you want the pattern to survive low light.
Pain: the ripple that outranks everything
Pain's Rinnegan is the rarest eye in the roster, and the easiest to spot from across a room: pale rings ripple outward from the pupil like a stone dropped in still water, in a muted grey-violet that makes the orange hair beside it look radioactive. Obito: one eye behind the mask
For most of his run as the masked "Madara," Obito shows the world exactly one eye — a single red Sharingan burning through the swirl mask's lone eyehole. When the mask cracks and the Kamui pinwheel comes out, a bladed print with long curved spokes carries the menace. The rest of the roster: no powers, strong palette
The other seven members prove you don't need a legendary eye to be recognizable — you need the right color next to the right hair.
- Konan — cool amber-orange eyes under blue hair and a paper flower. A warm honey or amber lens sells it instantly.
- Deidara — bright blue, and usually only one is visible under the scope; another one-lens cosplay.
- Hidan — unusual magenta-violet eyes that read pink in daylight scenes; a bold purple-pink lens is the move.
- Kakuzu — the wildcard: green irises floating on red-tinted sclera, with no visible pupil. Full recreations live in sclera territory; a no-pupil green print gets you most of the way in comfort.
- Sasori — half-lidded, warm reddish-brown; many cosplayers skip lenses entirely if their natural eyes are brown.
- Kisame — tiny, rounded shark eyes; the effect comes from makeup and gill shading more than iris color.

Akatsuki is ten members, and only three of them have eyes that need a specific lens. The rest are palette work — which is good news for a group build, because it means most of your budget goes to three people. Prices are for one pair (two lenses), all 14.5 mm unless noted.

What is missing from that table is Pain's Rinnegan, and it is missing honestly: we do not currently stock a concentric-ripple design. The closest in-stock geometry is the bladed pattern, which reads as "advanced doujutsu" rather than as Rinnegan specifically. If Pain is the build, that substitution is a compromise you should make knowingly rather than discover in photos.
Choosing for your member, and for your own eye
Match the arc, not just the character. Itachi spends most of his screen time in three-tomoe and only reveals the pinwheel at specific moments. If your costume is the cloak-and-calm version, the cheaper classic lens is more accurate than the dramatic one.
One eye or two. Obito and Kakashi wear a single Sharingan. The lens ships as a pair, so the correct build uses one and banks the other as a spare — which at a two-day convention is the most useful spare you can have.
Dark brown eyes. Every design above is an opaque print and works as shown. The failure mode is a sheer red tint, which turns muddy over a dark iris rather than red; the mechanism is in the why-colors-disappear guide.
Glasses. Only the Momoshiki design carries prescription powers here, in 24 spherical steps. Spherical powers do not correct astigmatism, so a cylinder value means a spherical equivalent — the calculator does the conversion.
What goes wrong with Akatsuki builds
These are the errors that show up when a group photo gets posted, and all of them are decided before the order goes in.
Wearing two lenses for a one-eye character. Obito's Sharingan is a single eye behind the mask. A matched pair reads as a different character, and because lenses ship in pairs, this mistake is almost automatic unless you decide against it deliberately.
Buying a "Rinnegan" that is not one. Concentric purple ripples are a specific, distinctive geometry. Substituting a bladed red pattern is a reasonable compromise; buying a random purple lens and calling it Rinnegan is not, and Pain cosplayers will notice from across the hall.
Forgetting Deidara's scope. His left eye is a mechanical scope, not a lens — it is a prop. People order a lens for it every year and end up with a costume element that cannot be worn as intended.
Mixing diameters inside one group. If three members buy 14.5 mm standard designs and one buys a 22 mm sclera, the sclera wearer's eyes look like a different species in group shots — which is fine if that person is Madara and intended, and jarring if it is accidental.
Treating the sclera lens as all-day wear. The 22 mm Madara design covers the whole visible eye: harder to insert, faster to dry, genuinely restrictive. It is a photoset lens. Bring a standard pair for the rest of the day.
Leaving group orders to October. A group build fails as a group — if one person's lenses arrive late, the photo is incomplete. Order the whole set together, early, and hand them out.
Group build maths
One unit is one pair, which is two lenses. A full ten-member Akatsuki does not need ten pairs of character lenses: three members need specific designs ($21.98–$88.98), and the remaining seven read correctly on palette and cloak alone. A realistic full-group lens budget is three to four pairs, $70–$140 depending on whether anyone takes the sclera option.
Two pairs clears the $49 free US shipping threshold (outside the US it is $69; under it, shipping is $10.99), so any group order of two or more ships free domestically. Ordering as one parcel rather than five individual orders is also the only way to guarantee everyone has lenses on the same day.
For a Halloween or convention date, standard delivery runs 14–20 days door to door: order by September 30 for October 31, and order the whole group as one parcel so everyone has them the same day. One more scheduling note specific to groups: decide who is wearing lenses at all. In a ten-person build, the members without doujutsu gain nothing from a coloured lens — their eyes are ordinary in canon, and a random colour actively fights the costume. Spending that budget on one good sclera for Madara, or on a spare pair for whoever has never worn lenses, does more for the group photo than four extra pairs of brown.
Akatsuki lenses versus the wider Naruto line
The Akatsuki subset is the red-pattern end of a larger catalogue. What separates it is that the geometry carries plot meaning: tomoe count tracks progression, and each Mangekyō belongs to exactly one person. That is a higher accuracy bar than most cosplay lenses have to clear, and it is why the Sharingan guide spends most of its length on which shape belongs to whom.
Outside the doujutsu characters, Naruto cosplay lenses behave like any other anime lens: pick the colour from reference art, prioritise opacity so it survives a dark iris, and stop worrying about geometry. The character index lists canon eye colours across the wider roster.

What is the "Amaterasu eye"?
Amaterasu is not a separate eye design — it is a technique cast through Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan, the three-spoke pinwheel. If you searched for an Amaterasu eye lens, the Itachi Mangekyo is the print you are looking for; the black flames happen around the eye, not in it.
Do all Akatsuki members have the Sharingan?
No. Only two members carry the Sharingan — Itachi and Obito — and Pain carries the Rinnegan. The other seven have ordinary eyes in specific colors: amber for Konan, blue for Deidara, magenta-violet for Hidan, green-on-red for Kakuzu, brown for Sasori, yellow for Zetsu, and Kisame's tiny shark eyes.
Was Sasuke ever in the Akatsuki?
