Douma's Kanji Eyes, Recreated: the Upper Two Lens Up Close
Mojosee · Aug 14, 2026
Douma is the cosplay everyone attempts and almost nobody nails, and it always fails at the same place: the eyes. His irises have the Upper Rank Two kanji printed straight through them in blocked rainbow color - a plain colored lens can't fake that, and a bad print turns to mush the second someone takes a photo. Here's the real lens, out of the vial and on a dark brown eye, next to the reference.
What the lens does for this look
Two things decide whether a kanji lens survives a con photo: the print has to stay centered so the character mark reads, and the color blocks have to be opaque enough that a near-black iris doesn't drag them grey. The macro shows the structure - hard black kanji stroke over solid red/yellow/blue fields - and the worn frames show it holding shape at arm's length. The reference-vs-worn split at the end is the comparison every cosplayer should demand before buying.

Meet “The Upper Two Eye”
This clip is built as evidence, not a glam edit: reference art, lens in the vial, lens going on, then worn from several angles with a side-by-side card. Makeup stays simple on purpose - bronze lid, defined lashes - because a printed iris is already the loudest element on the face. Watch the flat-lay frame: the two lenses are mirrored, so the kanji ends up toward the outer corner of each eye, exactly the way the art places it.
How to recreate it
- Base eye makeup first, lenses last - a printed lens is hard to place with sticky fingers
- Bronze or neutral shadow only; skip colored shadow that fights the print
- Check orientation before insertion: the mark should end up toward the outer corner
- Test-wear at home once before the con - printed lenses need a moment to settle
- For photos: shoot slightly above eye level so the print faces the lens, not the ceiling
- Bring a mirror and solution to the con - if the print rotates, a blink usually resets it
