Pommy Mode: the Pomni Jester Makeup, From Bare Face to Character

Every Pomni cosplay has the same two failure points, and neither is the costume: the eyes and the face. Pomni's eyes are a hard graphic - red and blue segments around a black centre - and her face is a doll's, flat and pale with hard little accents. Put the jester hat on a normal made-up face and you get 'girl at a clown party', not the character. This clip goes from a bare face with glasses to the finished look, and the last thing that goes in is a blue ring lens with a pink core that borrows Pomni's two colours in one print.

What the lens does for this look

Pomni is drawn with red and blue eyes, and the cheat that makes a human face read as her is a single lens that carries both: a saturated blue outer ring, a pink-red inner ring, and a dark centre for the pupil. The macro at the top of the clip is the proof shot - held open on a dark brown eye, the print covers evenly on this wearer, with no brown visible through the pink core in these frames. Because the ring structure is so graphic it survives the heavy black liner around it; a softer natural print would disappear under this much eye makeup.

Meet “Pommy Mode”

The face is built pale and matte first, then everything else sits on top as hard graphic accents - exactly like the character's design. A thick black wing pulled long past the outer corner, a row of small red dots tracing the crease and the lower lash line, and one glossy red-black tear drop hanging from the lower lid. Cheeks blushed high and round, a red pom on the nose tip, and a glossy red lip. Blonde bangs stay soft under the red-and-blue jester hat so the face reads doll rather than harsh. The lens is the centre of all of it - the only place in the look where the red and blue actually meet.

How to recreate it

1. Pale matte base one shade lighter than your skin, set hard - the accents need a flat surface
2. Black liquid liner: a thick wing extended well past the outer corner, plus a fine line along the lower lashes
3. Red dots with a fine brush along the crease and under the lower line - keep them small and uneven
4. One tear drop: a red teardrop under the outer lower lid with a black dot at the top, gloss it
5. Round pink-red blush high on the apple, a red pom-pom on the nose tip with lash glue, glossy red lip
6. Blue-pink ring lenses in last, then the jester hat - the eyes are what make the hat read as Pomni and not as a costume-shop prop
